Report: For Sutton, It’s Quit or Be Fired
If Eddie Sutton doesn’t resign, he is expected to be fired within a few days as basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Saturday.
The newspaper said action could be taken this week at the board of directors meeting of the Kentucky Athletic Assn.
In an interview with CBS-TV, Sutton, who is 90-40 at Kentucky, said “that (his future) may come up, but I have not been asked to resign at this point.”
The newspaper quoted anonymous sources as saying that although Sutton is not named in the 18 National Collegiate Athletic Assn. allegations, the school wants him out.
If Sutton’s contract is terminated, Kentucky would still be obligated to pay off the remaining year at $80,000.
