IN BRIEF : Austrian Beats Odizor in Singles
Thomas Muster of Austria, the highest seed to play today in the first round of men’s singles at the International Players Championships, swept Nduka Odizor of Houston 7-5, 7-5, 6-3.
Muster is seeded seventh. Five of the 10 top-ranked women and five of the 10 top men are entered in the tournament, but most had today off.
In women’s play, No. 8 Katerina Maleeva of Bulgaria edged Nathalie Herreman of France 7-6, 1-6, 7-5. No. 11 Helen Kelesi of Canada beat Silke Meier of West Germany 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
