Saddleback High School’s one-two punch of center Malru Dottin and guard Craig Marshall head the list of selections for the 15th Times’ All-Orange County boys’ basketball team.

Saddleback was the county’s top-ranked team most of the season and rode a 22-game winning streak into the Southern Section’s 5-AA division championship game before losing to Long Beach Millikan, 62-59, in overtime.

Saddleback compiled a 51-8 record over the past two seasons with Dottin and Marshall in the lineup, including two victories over Mater Dei in tournament championship games this season.

Dottin, a 6-foot-7 center, was a force inside while Marshall, a versatile athlete, was the team’s defensive specialist. Saddleback was the only school with two players selected to the 10-man team.

The team was selected from ballots submitted by coaches in the county. Players were chosen regardless of position. The players will be honored by The Times April 2 at 9 a.m. at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel and Towers.

Guest speaker will be George Yardley, who started his basketball career at Newport Harbor High and later became the first player to score more than 2,000 points in an National Basketball Assn. season.

The team also features La Quinta’s high-scoring forward, Scott Campbell, and Capistrano Valley’s gifted junior, Scott McCorkle.

McCorkle, generally considered the most talented player in the county, led Capistrano Valley to its first Southern Section 5-A division championship. Capistrano Valley was a 4-A division runner-up with McCorkle in the lineup as a sophomore.

Campbell scored 53 points against Bolsa Grande, the fourth-highest single-game mark in county history. He had a remarkable stretch in which he scored 30 or more points in eight consecutive games.
