The mother of twin boys who were found beaten and abandoned at a Del Mar hotel pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of child abuse, child abandonment and inflicting corporal injury on the boys.

Dorothy Denise DeSimone, 25, of Oceanside was ordered held in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The district attorney’s office filed the charges Wednesday against DeSimone and her boyfriend, Charles Thomas McCoy, 27. McCoy remains a fugitive.

No sex charges have been filed, despite earlier reports that the boys, found Saturday wandering at the Del Mar Inn, had been molested.

A man suspected of being McCoy checked in with the 2 1/2-year-old boys earlier in the week. The occupant never checked out.

The boys, who remain in Children’s Hospital, had extensive bruises on their faces, some of which had been covered with makeup.

The boys’ uncle alerted police to their identities after seeing their pictures on television.

San Diego Municipal Judge Charles Patrick ordered a bail review for DeSimone for Monday and a preliminary hearing for April 12.

She was arrested after arriving at the hospital to visit the twins.
