IN BRIEF : China Advances in Table Tennis

DORTMUND, West Germany —
Defending champion China became the first men’s team to qualify for the second round of the World Table Tennis Championships today.
China, which has won the last four team titles, advanced with a 3-0 record in its group. The Chinese beat Norway 5-0 today with Teng Yi and Chen Longcan gaining two victories apiece.
Sweden, seeded second behind China, also advanced with a 5-0 victory over Hong Kong. Sweden finished first in its five-team group with a 4-0 record.
