Two subway workers were struck and killed Thursday by an express train, snarling service and briefly trapping up to 5,000 riders underground, officials said.

The two Transit Authority electrical workers were struck about 500 feet north of the Astor place station in Greenwich Village, a transit spokesman said.

Service was suspended in both directions on all Lexington Avenue line tracks in the area, cutting power to five trains nearby.
