Harlem Nights (Paramount). Shooting in L.A. Eddie Murphy establishes firm control as he exec-produces, stars, directs and scripts this gangster comedy, which co-stars Richard Pryor. It’s 1938 and the dapper duo are proprietors of Harlem’s Sugar Hill nightclub but soon become entangled with a highly serious mob guy. Producers Robert D. Wachs and Mark Lipsky. Late ’89 release.

The Housewarming (2001 Art & Ent.) Shooting in Los Angeles and Arizona. Richard Harrison and Troy Donahue star in suspense thriller with true-to-life characters that opens on Halloween night, 1959, then proceeds to contemporary times. Executive producer Wendell Cox. Producer/director/screenwriter Osama Kattan. Also stars Bob Copeland, Ruth Getts and Jacqulyn Moen. Distributor World Media. October release.

Hunt For Red October (Paramount). Shooting in Los Angeles and Washington state. “Die Hard’s” John McTiernan directs this thriller based on the Tom Clancy mega-best seller. A prominent Soviet sub intends to defect to the United States as the Russkies try to retrieve it before our own CIA can haul it in. Screenwriters Larry Ferguson and Donald Stewart. Stars Klaus Maria Brandauer, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn and James Earl Jones. Late ’89 release.

I Love You to Death (Tri-Star). Shooting in Tacoma. Kevin Kline and Tracey Ullman pair up in an offbeat, true incident inspired comedy from the pen and direction of Lawrence Kasdan. Kline’s a womanizing pizza-parlor owner whose constant philandering and abusive behavior causes his wife to consider murdering him. Producer Jeffrey Lurie. Christmas release.

Sexbomb (FilmBarn). Shooting in Los Angeles. Linnea Quigley, star of such classics as “Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers,” portrays a low-budget actress who hires her screenwriter to bump off sleazy producer Jack Nance (“Eraserhead”) in this dark, comedic movie-within-a-movie. Producers Rick Eye and Jeff Broadstreet. Director Broadstreet. Screenwriter Robert Benson. Also stars Stuart Benton and Delia Sheppard. Late summer release.
