IN BRIEF : Giamatti on Job, Unveils Troika
A. Bartlett Giamatti spent his first day as baseball commissioner today unveiling a new stratified structure of his office.
The reorganization stems from a two-month review by Giamatti and his new deputy, Francis T. Vincent Jr., with the help of Strategy Associates, a consulting firm. The new organization creates an office of the commissioner with three members--Giamatti, Vincent and Ed Durso, who stays on as executive vice president.
Giamatti will oversee baseball operations, player relations and public relations; Vincent will be responsible for broadcasting and special events along with corporate sponsorship, licensing and publishing; and Durso will be in charge of legal, financial and security affairs. The three men also will serve as a decision-making council.
“This will ensure that our collective experience is brought to bear on major issues, that communication is enhanced and that all aspects of the issues are dealt with,” Giamatti said.
