Share

Anaheim city officials have announced the creation of a pilot curbside recycling program.

The project, Recycle Anaheim, will affect about 11,000 households within the city and is due to begin soon. It will provide for collection of glass, newspapers, tin, aluminum and plastic.

Each household in the project will be issued two hinged, 110-gallon containers, one colored green for the collection of the recyclable materials, the other colored black for regular rubbish use.

Officials said the city, in partnership with Anaheim Disposal Inc., will collect the recyclable materials once a month. Regular household rubbish pickup will continue on a weekly basis.

The pilot project is designed to save the city money by the use of new, partially automated trash trucks and from the sale of the recyclable materials.
