Dennis Quaid will portray a guard in a native internment camp who falls in love with a Japanese woman in Tri-Star’s “Come See the Paradise.” Alan Parker wrote the original 1940s-set story and directs in Northern California next month. Robert Colesberry produces. . . Amy Irving portrays a journalist who discovers that the death of two Puerto Rican student activists was no accident in Golden Harvest’s “A Show of Force,” filming on location in June. Based on a true incident and adapted from the Anne Nelson book “Murder Under Two Flags,” it stars Robert Duvall as Irving’s boss, Alfre Woodard as a civil rights activist, and Lou Diamond Phillips, Erik Estrada and Andy Garcia as various officials. Brazilian director Bruno Baretto (“Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands”) makes his English directing debut for producer John Strong who co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Jones. . . .

Barbra Streisand will, in addition to directing the screen version of Pat Conroy’s “Prince of Tides,” play the role of Dr. Lowenstein, a New York psychiatrist. Andy Karsch produces the saga of Tom Wingo, a high school teacher, and his South Carolinian family. Lowenstein, Tom’s sister’s doctor, becomes adversary and lover to him. Production is slated for late summer through MGM. . . .

Daryl Hannah stars opposite John Malkovich in Paramount’s “Crazy People,” filming in Virginia in May.
