Political Ambition Rallies From Last to Win El Rincon By a Half-Length
Political Ambition came from last place to sweep past four rivals Sunday to win the $107,600 El Rincon Handicap by a half-length at Santa Anita Park.
Jostled early, Political Ambition trailed the field before staging a stretch run to beat Patchy Groundfog. He won $62,600 for finishing first.
Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, Political Ambition finished in a time of 1:35 3/5 in the mile-run on Santa Anita’s turf course for 4-year-olds and up.
Political Ambition returned $6.80, $3.60 and $2.40.
Patchy Groundfog, ridden by Gary Stevens, earned $20,000 and paid $4.80 and $42.40.
Steinlein, ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr., was third by a length to earn $15,000 and pay $2.20 to show.
Peace, ridden by Willie Shoemaker, finished fourth. Wait Till Monday, with Rick Dominguez aboard, was last.
