A 25-year-old Fullerton man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident after the car he was driving collided with a truck at a Buena Park intersection.

Police said Scott James Garbar apparently ran a red light and crashed his Ford Ranchero into a Toyota pickup truck at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The Toyota, driven by Timothy F. Clark, 28, of Cypress rolled over onto the sidewalk and landed on its top a few feet from a Denny’s restaurant, Buena Park Police Officer Rich McMillen said. Clark was not injured.

A Buena Park officer in a nearby patrol car saw the accident and alerted other officers, one of whom spotted Garbar and gave chase for 15 minutes, police said. Garbar allegedly stopped the car and ran away.

Officers found him in a locked garage on El Escorial Way and arrested Garbar for leaving the scene of an accident, drunk driving, evading arrest and several outstanding traffic warrants, police said.

A passenger in his car, Victoria Steinbergs, was also arrested. Police did not release her age or address.

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Garbar was convicted of drunk driving in 1985.
