College Roundup : 5 Home Runs Lift Cal Lutheran Over UC Santa Barbara

Henry Campos had a solo home run and Jeff Brouelette hit a two-run single as Cal Lutheran rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to defeat UC Santa Barbara, 11-10, Wednesday in a nonconference baseball game at Santa Barbara.

The victory extended Cal Lutheran’s win streak to six and was the Kingsmen’s second against a Division I team this season. Cal Lutheran (24-11) also defeated Pepperdine.

With Cal Lutheran leading, 8-4, the Gauchos rallied for five runs in the sixth. The Kingsmen tied the score on Campos’ home run--his second of the game--and went ahead to stay on Brouelette’s single.

Cal Lutheran (24-11) had five home runs among 17 hits. Anthony Espitia--whose eight home runs leads the Kingsmen--and Leonard Matsumoto each hit two-run home runs and Brouelette also homered. Campos had four hits, three runs batted in and scored two runs.

SOFTBALL

Canyons 2, Moorpark 1--Debbie Bernard singled in the 10th inning to score Diana Franklin as Canyons snapped Moorpark’s 23-game win streak against Western State Conference opponents.

Julie Rendall singled home Angie Gorski in the first inning to end Moorpark’s conference streak of scoreless innings at 47.

Michelle Ruffner (19-12) allowed nine hits to register the complete-game win for Canyons, which is even with Moorpark with a 7-1 record in conference play.

VOLLEYBALL

Pierce d. Santa Barbara, 15-1, 15-10, 15-9--Rico Guimares had 14 kills to lead Pierce to its eighth consecutive victory in the South Coast Conference match at Pierce.
