Madison’s Robby Robinson Arrested for Rape

Robby Robinson, the second-leading scorer among San Diego County high school basketball players this past season, faces arraignment today in San Diego Municipal Court after being arrested on suspicion of statutory rape, according to the San Diego County district attorney’s office.

Robinson, a senior at Madison High School, is currently free, pending today’s arraignment.

The maximum penalty for a felony charge is three years imprisonment. The district attorney’s spokesman said the charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor, which carries a maximum punishment of one year in jail.

BASEBALL

San Diego State dropped a 2-1 decision to host University of New Orleans. The Aztecs (25-15) scored in the seventh when Brian Dunn led off with a single, moved to third when on an errant pick-off attempt and came home on Dan Brown’s ground out.

MEN’S TENNIS

SDSU defeated visiting UC San Diego, 8-1. Joe McDonough defeated Randy Mark, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, in No. 1 singles for the Aztecs (10-16). UCSD’s victory was in No. 1 doubles as Chris Belloli and Sig Huber defeated Bill Kearsley and Scott Del Mastro, 7-5, 7-6. UCSD is 10-9.

The University of San Diego, ranked 15th in the nation, routed defending Division II champion, Chapman College, 7-1. USD’s Dave Stewart defeated Olivier Amerlinck, 6-3, 6-0, in singles then teamed with J.R. Edwards defeat Amerlinck and Darrin Capik, 7-5, 7-5. USD moved to 21-6; Chapman is 10-9.
