Louisiana State women’s track Coach Loren Seagrave, was fired by head track Coach Pat Henry, who said it was in the best interests of the university to get rid of the man who won four national championships and was named Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year six times.

The request for Seagrave’s resignation apparently was triggered by a misinterpretation of an all-night counseling session Seagrave had with one of his athletes.

Seagrave and Athletic Director Joe Dean met twice on April 4, and, Seagrave said, Dean asked for his resignation “first thing at the first meeting.”

“He basically stipulated he thought there was a situation as was portrayed to him that had sexual overtones,” Seagrave said. “I clarified it immediately. There weren’t sexual overtones. There wasn’t a sexual deal about it.”

LSU will meet UCLA in a dual track meet Saturday at Drake Stadium.
