A fashion show featuring the 1989 spring and summer collection of Luis Estevez highlighted the Women’s Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s annual membership luncheon Tuesday.

About 600 current and new members met at the Beverly Hilton, where president Marcia Ziffren was reelected to a two-year term.

A Hefty Check

Ziffren also presented a hefty check for $225,000 to Larry Baum, vice president for community relations for the medical center. The money will be divided among the Women’s Guild hospice program and the eighth floor Women’s Pavilion. Now in its 32nd year, the guild has raised nearly $8 million for Cedars-Sinai.

Members filtered into the peach and sandstone ballroom for lunch and the fashion show. “I came prepared,” Harriet Deutsch declared as she sat ready with notepad and paper to mark down favorite dresses.

These were clothes for occasions and for making entrances. Estevez uses chiffon for short, tiered skirts and long, flowing, body-conscious gowns. Some flamenco-inspired looks included off-the-shoulder, knee-length dresses with flounces at the hem in silks patterned with large red roses.

The luncheon, not a fund-raiser, “is our gift to our members,” Ziffren said. “I think people come because it’s such a special group.”

New board of directors members elected that day were Sue Robertson, Lana Sacks and Stacey Winkler. The Evelyn Clayburgh award for distinguished service went to Jackie Foster, an 11-year guild member and current vice president.

In Attendance

Others who attended included luncheon chairman Mimi Meltzer and co-chairman Geri Brawerman, Sybil Brand, Fran Stark, Elaine Goldsmith, Eva Gabor, Anne Douglas, Cristina Ferrare, Barbara Davis, Nancy Zarif, Joanna Poitier, Brenda Richie, Marcia Weisman, Tawny Little, Edward Estevez and Marcia Israel.
