UCLA sophomore quarterback Jimmy Bonds completed eight of 10 passes for 103 yards in the Bruins’ spring scrimmage at the Rose Bowl Friday, and the two quarterbacks he’s battling for the starting position also played well.

Senior Ron Caragher completed six of 12 for 97 yards, and red-shirt freshman Bret Johnson completed six of 12 for 58 yards. Caragher scored the only touchdown of the 80-play session on a five-yard run.

The leading rusher was red-shirt freshman tailback Kevin Williams, who gained 65 yards in 16 carries. Red-shirt freshman spit end Sean LaChapelle was the leading receiver with three catches for 49 yards. He caught a pass from Bonds good for 28 yards.
