San Diego police Thursday arrested six juveniles they believe were responsible for four drive-by shootings in South San Diego Wednesday.

Police spokesman Dave Cohen said five of the youths were arrested in a stolen car by members of the police gang unit. The arrest was made in South San Diego.

Cohen said that at the time of the arrest the five juveniles were armed with three 9-millimeter automatic pistols, two .357 magnum revolvers and a .45 caliber automatic pistol. Police found a video cassette recorder and jewelry believed taken from a burglary in the car, Cohen said.

The sixth youngster was arrested at a residence in South San Diego where police seized an AR-15 assault rifle, two other rifles, ammunition, and jewelry and other goods suspected of being stolen.

Cohen said the six youths, who range in age from 14 to 17, are suspected of having committed a series of burglaries in addition to the drive-by shootings.

No one was injured in the drive-by shootings, which police believe were gang related, but in all four cases bullets peppered residences in the Nestor and San Ysidro areas of South San Diego.
