Census Bureau Recruits Workers for Next Year’s National Survey

Share

Census takers for 1990 are being recruited in Los Angeles County.

More than 600 temporary jobs are available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Workers will be employed for six weeks at $6 an hour. Paid training and car mileage are included.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 or older and take a written test.

Census takers canvass designated areas by driving and walking--usually close to their homes--to check a prepared list of addresses with existing residential units.

“Although the 1990 census will be taken about a year from now . . . we must prepare our mailing lists now to ensure that each household will receive its questionnaire in the mail,” said John Reeder, Los Angeles regional director of the Census Bureau.
