Rancho Buena Vista High’s girls’ distance medley relay placed first at the Mt. San Antonio Relays in Walnut Saturday with a national season best time of 12:09.84.

Mira Hornbacher (who ran the 1,200 meters), Angel Mason (400), Stephanie Rae (800), and Kira Jorgensen (1,600) all improved on their previous relay bests as the team cut more than eight seconds off its clocking at the Arcadia Invitational two weeks ago.

Rae ran a 2:26 800--a 10-second drop from Arcadia.

Other San Diego County athletes who stood out in Walnut included:

--Brent Noon. The national leader in the shotput took a step back, throwing 66-feet-3 1/2, nearly two feet off his best of 68-1 3/4. But it was easily good enough for first; nobody else threw more than 60 feet.

“I’m not disappointed,” Noon said. “But it was just one of those days when I couldn’t get anything going.”

Noon’s throw, the second best at Mt. San Antonio since the meet began in 1959, was six inches off the meet record of 66-9 1/2, set by Terry Albritton in 1972.

--Frances O’Neill. The San Pasqual distance runner won the 1,500 in 3:53.78, fastest in the nation this year (Mount Carmel’s Clay Biddle placed eighth in 3:59.0). O’Neill also anchored the Eagle’s distance medley relay team, which placed second to Walnut with a time of 10:25.0. Walnut ran 10:19.3.

--Jorge Rodriguez, Noon’s teammate at Fallbrook, who placed fifth in the 800 meters with a personal best 1:52.8.

--Orange Glen’s Lenny McGill, who placed second in the triple jump (49-2 1/2) to Orange County Magnolia High’s Phouphet Singbandith (49-10 1/2). Both were aided by a 2.47 miles-per-hour wind.

--Escondido’s Mario O’Connor finished fourth overall in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.7.
