IN BRIEF : Norman, Nakamura Take 1st Round
Australian Greg Norman and Japan’s Tadao Nakamura each shot a 5-under-par 65 today and shared the first round lead in the $770,000 Chunichi Crowns Tournament.
Norman scattered two birdies and a bogey over the front nine and had four birdies on the back of the 6,473-yard, par-70 Wago course of the Nagoya Golf Club.
Nakamura carded two bogeys and seven birdies, including five between the 11th and 16th holes.
Koichi Suzuki and Hiroshi Ishii, both of Japan, were next at 66. American Blaine McCallister, Australian Roger Mackay and Haruo Yasuda of Japan shot 67s, tied for fifth.
First prize in the tournament, which ends Sunday, is worth $138,000.
