Santa Monica : Photographers Plan Trip

Share

Members of Santa Monica College’s photography department plan to share their technical know-how with the Soviet Union during a series of seminars and lectures in Lithuania later this month.

The Santa Monica delegation will also deliver 90 color and black-and-white photographs taken by school faculty members. The collection will be displayed at galleries throughout Lithuania before being donated to the University of Vilnius in Lithuania’s capital.

The delegation, which leaves for Lithuania on May 26, includes three photography instructors and a graphics arts faculty member. They were invited by Lithuania’s Photographic Union after an exhibit last year at Santa Monica College by Lithuanian photographer Rimantas Dichavicius.

College officials said the Lithuanians expressed particular interest in commercial photography, after the recent, unprecedented publication of advertisements in a Soviet government newspaper.

The seminars, which will be conducted at the University of Vilnius, will include instruction on fine art photography, on computer use for design and graphics, and on trends in U.S. photography.
