Ty Miller, Santa Monica High School senior midfielder, has been named the defensive soccer Player of the Year on the All-CIF Southern Section boys 4-A team. Santa Monica senior midfielder Jorge Alfaro was a second-team selection.

First-team selections in girls 1-A soccer include sophomore midfielder Holly Agajanian of Brentwood, senior midfielder Kim Katzenbach of Marlborough, junior forward Kristen Nemec of Immaculate Heart and junior midfielder Jennifer Wrightson of Notre Dame Academy. Senior forward Jill Sutton of Marymount was named to the second-team.

Larry Green, 19, of Malibu, a member of the USC water polo team and the Most Valuable Player on the 1987 Santa Monica High School team, has been named to the U.S. squad that will compete in the World Maccabiah Games in July in Israel.

Five football players from Westside high schools are on the spring roster of the University of Hawaii: sophomore running back Amani Davis of University High, senior guard Larry Jones of Hamilton, junior tackle Sean Robinson of Palisades, redshirt freshmen Grant Pittman, a wide receiver, of St. Bernard, and Louis Randall, a linebacker, of Palisades.

Hamilton defensive back-wide receiver Eric Shambourger is listed as an incoming freshman.

Duke Dulgarian has resigned after five years as head football coach at St. Bernard High. Dulgarian said he plans to enter his family’s business.

Alice Middleton of Santa Monica, Rollin Rhone of Culver City and Alan Roberts of Beverly Hills were among winners in the 55th annual Southern California Tennis Assn. senior sectional championships.

Middleton won the women’s age-40 singles, Rhone the men’s 35 singles and Roberts and partner Gordon Davis of Encino the men’s 50 doubles.

Pat Sullivan shot a 35 for nine holes to win the A flight at the Penmar Men’s Golf Club’s April tournament. Other flight winners and their gross scores: Irv Himelhoch, B, 37; Vernon Van Wie, C, 39; Frank McDaniel, D, 43, and Jeff Leitman, temporary handicaps, 37.

Former Beverly Hills High athletes Steven Fenton and Gregg Silver have been standouts for the Pomona Pitzer College baseball team. At the end of April, Fenton, a freshman second baseman, was leading the team in batting at .419 and had seven doubles, and Silver, a junior center fielder, was hitting .400 and had a team-high six home runs.

In high school, both were named All-Ocean League. Silver was the school’s Athlete of the Year as a senior and also starred in football.
