SportScope : Heat Opens Home Soccer Season Against Arizona

The Los Angeles Heat will make its home debut Saturday night at 7:30 against the Arizona Condors at West Torrance High in a Western Soccer League match.

The Heat take a 1-1 record into the game. The Condors are 0-1.

Former UCLA star Billy Thompson and Nathan Sacks have scored goals for the Heat.

The Dodgers will conduct a free baseball clinic for youths at Wilson Park in Torrance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. An autograph session is planned.

Three members of the San Pedro and Peninsula YMCA swim team placed in the organization’s national championships in Florida: Claudine Martinez (Carson), placed ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 14th in the 500 freestyle; Deborah Kory (Rolling Hills) finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke and 13th in the 200 breaststroke, and Zoltan Gyurko (Rancho Palos Verdes) was 13th in the 200 butterfly.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team plays at home this afternoon at 3 against Cal State Los Angeles, then closes out a three-game series with the Eagles in L.A. Saturday night at 7:30.
