Romantic Honeymoon

We hear Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney, who met on the CBS series “Designing Women,” will be going to Europe after their May 28 wedding. A spokesperson for Cecilia Rasmussen’s Super-Learners in Beverly Hills says that Burke, “anticipating a most romantic honeymoon in France,” has been studying “the language of love.” The TV star’s pronunciation is said to be quite beautiful, and at the end of her 40-hour course she will have “basic fluency,” which in precise English means confidence to use the language.

Couple of Cut-Ups

Listen spotted Mel Brooks and wife Anne Bancroft having what looked like a fine time laughing, singing, clapping the other night at the Las Palmas Theatre in Hollywood during the course of the Borscht Belt revue, “A Night in the Catskills.” Our neck wasn’t long enough to see what Carl Reiner and wife Estelle, seated directly in front of Brooks and Bancroft, were up to. But during intermission, we got a good look at both couples and noticed some style similarities. The women wore pretty chiffon scarfs, the men wore classic V-neck sweaters.

Kinder, Gentler Home

Where do we begin to tell about the ways you can fill your home with material goods as clean of conscience as those assembled in the “Cruelty Free House,” stocked by the folks at the Doris Day Animal League? These are items that involve no testing on furry, fishy or even scaly creatures, and there are enough of them to fill a two-bedroom, two-bath, Beverly Hills condo. A sampling of what can be found? In the closet: fake, full-length lynx and mink coats with matching hats. (This is Beverly Hills, after all.) In the medicine cabinet: Tom’s of Maine shaving cream. And at the vanity table: Rachel Perry’s “Beauty Without Cruelty” cosmetics. The effort was made as part of Be Kind to Animals Week, which ends Sunday.

What a Wrap

For the opposite view, in more ways than one, our Paris ear files this report: Everyone is raving about Marc Bohan’s first haute couture fur collection for Christian Dior where the piece de resistance was a 7/8th-length, golden-sable coat with draped collar and cuffs and a price tag of 1,500,000 francs, or roughly $241,935.

Shoppers’ Get-Together

Just because she closed her Functional Art Store in Santa Monica, Joan Simon wasn’t about to retire. So she had a little get-together and invited London jewelry designer Andrew Logan to bring over a few new items. He’s been known to make brooches out of broken Christmas tree bulbs for his customers, a list that includes everyone from Lillian Gish to Cleo Lane. Simon says the gathering of shoppers was a success. And now she’s got a new title: artists’ agent. Logan is her first client.

Suiting Up for a Tour

Elton John has his priorities straight. The minute he decided to go on a concert tour, he went shopping. Milanese designer Gianni Versace made a few special items for John’s trip, we hear from Versace’s press office. Italian blazers and turtleneck sweaters for the man who once lived in gold lame jump suits? Now that’s what we call a makeover.

Lining Up for Turquoise

Been wondering where fashion plate and talk-show host Arsenio Hall buys his clothes? Well, some of them, at least, come from the Si Beau Custom Tailor shop on Melrose Avenue. Listen hears this by way of Michael Wolff, bandleader for Hall’s late-night show, who also went shopping there after he got the name from Hall. Wolff likes the way they line their suit jackets in turquoise-colored silk, we hear from Kathleen Rogers, the musician’s spokeswoman. “It shows up extremely well on television,” she explains.

L.A. in a Day

The ethereal stuff of Los Angeles style is a hot topic these days. So, a group of designers and industry experts have set aside a full day to discuss everything about it, from fashion trends to photography to fashion and furniture. It’s set for May 13 at the Century Plaza Hotel, costs $125, and UCLA Extension is sponsoring it. A good show of speakers includes designer Gregory Poe, who now designs collections for Tokyo boutiques.
