Tennis Roundup : Graf Easily Defeats Aussie, Faces Argentine in Semifinals

Top-seeded Steffi Graf cruised into the semifinals of the $200,000 Virginia Slims tennis tournament at Hamburg, West Germany, with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rachel McQuillan of Australia Friday.

Graf, the top-ranked woman player in the world, needed only 50 minutes to dispatch the unseeded Australian. Today, Graf will meet Bettina Fulco of Argentina, who ousted Nathalie Tauziat of France, 7-5, 7-6.

Stefan Edberg defeated 19-year-old Alberto Mancini of Argentina, 7-6, 6-2, for a semifinal spot in the $205,000 Bavarian Open at Munich.

Edberg’s semifinal opponent will be Martin Strelba of Czechoslovakia, who upset Sweden’s Jonas Svensson, 6-4, 6-2.

The quarterfinals of the Tournament of Champions in New York were postponed because of rain. The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled to be played today.

Top-seeded Audra Keller of Memphis, Tenn., advanced to the final of the 18-and-under division of the Seventeen Magazine Tournament of Champions at the Marguerite Recreation Center in Mission Viejo by defeating fourth-seeded Susan Sommerville of Dearborn, Mich., 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.

In today’s final, Keller will face Angelica Gavaldon of Coronado, who beat Christine Neuman, of Downers Grove, Ill., 6-3, 7-5.
