“Pieces of Silver,” the latest film from Oscar-winning compilist Chuck Workman (“Precious Images”), has been pulled from the Cannes Film Festival. “Pieces”--310 sequences celebrating the 100th anniversary of Edison’s purchase of Eastman Kodak film for moving pictures, running 7 1/2 minutes--hit clearance problems.

In addition to scenes from American and foreign movies, “Pieces”--which premiered at the recent AFI Fest--includes anim-ation, newsreels, commercials, documentaries, experimental films and home movies. It will be distributed through the National Assn. of Theater Owners this summer.538976343have all rights secured. But the French felt otherwise.

“I’m annoyed but there’s nothing that can be done now,” Workman said. “I always make the films first and get the rights later. It’s creatively more effective because you work without constraints.”
