Delay Questioned on Hon Development

Share

Many residents of Laguna Niguel interested in stopping the ill-conceived Hon Development project at Crown Valley Parkway and Pacific Island Drive have had an opportunity to review documents and permits connected with the project. Serious discrepancies, as well as the lack of any project permit extension past the July, 1988, expiration date, have come to light.

These most serious matters were brought to the attention of the county in a closed meeting. At that time the county assured all the parties involved that there would be a reply within 10 days.

Since that time, the California Coastal Commission has deemed Hon’s coastal permit null and void.

It has now been 4 weeks since that initial meeting with the county. The community has yet to hear from the county on whether these latest technical concerns--as well as the obvious health, safety, environmental and wildlife-threatening concerns--will be enough evidence to finally bury this most damaging of projects.

What could possibly be taking the county so long? Are they just dragging their feet in hope that this whole mess will go away? Or are these discrepancies and concerns so enormous that it takes weeks to sort out?

We want to know what the ultimate fate of this beautiful coastal ridgeline will be. The sheer number and significance of the discrepancies that exist leads one to wonder how the Planning Commission and supervisors could have approved this mess in the first place.
