NATION : Man Beaten After His Car Hits Girl
A man who accidentally struck a 4-year-old girl who had run in front of his car was in serious condition today after a severe beating by several men, including the girl’s father, police said.
James Letts, 22, was in Holy Cross Hospital with fractures of the skull, nose and cheekbone, a nursing supervisor said. The girl was treated for minor injuries at Holy Cross and released.
Letts’s auto struck the girl about 1:20 a.m. Sunday when she ran into the street as she and family members were getting out of a car, police said. They said that when Letts got out of his car to check the girl’s condition, the girl’s father, Kalanda Brooker, 28, a friend of Brooker’s and at least one neighbor attacked Letts.
When police arrived, Letts was still on the ground with one of his assailants kicking him in the head.
