Warren High School of the Downey Unified School District has won the geometry division of the 1989 National Mathematics League competition, league director Diane Riley said this week.
More than 430 schools from across the country entered the geometry division, one of six in the competition. The league, composed of math teachers and based in Coral Springs, Fla., has run the contest for the last six years.
The competition consisted of five 30-minute tests, with six geometry problems per test. It was administered using an honor system by teachers and administrators at participating high schools.
Warren students correctly answered 146 of 150 problems to win the contest. Vestavia Hills High of Birmingham, Ala., finished second. Warren will receive a plaque for the victory and its top-scoring students will receive ribbons.
