A fight led to the fatal stabbing of a man in East San Diego Thursday night, San Diego police said.
The victim, Gregory Purvis, 31, had been involved in a fight with Steve Pippin, 24, about 6 p.m. near Date Place and Altadena Avenue, police said.
Upset, Pippin went into a nearby residence and returned about 20 minutes later with a knife, looking for Purvis, police said. Pippin found Purvis seated in a car, stabbed him in the chest and called to turn himself in, police said.
Purvis died about an hour later at Mercy Hospital, police said.
Police late Thursday night said they had not yet determined a motive. Pippin is in custody on suspicion of murder.
