McGrann Sets Record in 10,000-Meter Run
UC Irvine senior Beth McGrann broke a meet record in the women’s 10,000-meter run, and Utah State’s Craig Carter won two weight events during the first day of the Big West Conference track and field championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
McGrann, a three-time conference champion in the 5,000 and the defending champion in the 10,000, won the event in 35 minutes 51.72 seconds, breaking the record of 36:46.44 set by San Diego State’s Maureen Bradley in 1986.
Carter, a junior, won the hammer throw at 201 feet 8 inches, and later the discus at 168-9.
The meet resumes today at 1 p.m.
