The Nevada Supreme Court was asked by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. to lift an injunction that has prevented the suspension of Jerry Tarkanian, basketball coach at Nevada Las Vegas.
The motion was signed by NCAA attorney Jim Beasley and mailed to the court. Last December, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, 5-4, in the NCAA’s favor against Tarkanian.
The motion requests that the Nevada high court lift a district court injunction that prevents the suspension of Tarkanian, charged with numerous rule violations in 1977.
Chief Justice Cliff Young has said that Tarkanian’s attorneys will have a chance to review the motion before any ruling is made.
If the injunction is wiped out, the NCAA can ask UNLV to order Tarkanian’s suspension for two years.
