In portraying KABC-TV’s simulated earthquake as a shameless ratings stunt, Howard Rosenberg has done a disservice to the field of earthquake safety (“Finding Some Faults in KABC’s ‘Quakebusters,’ ” April 29).

Viewers were attracted in large numbers not because they wanted or expected entertainment but because they share KABC-TV’s concern over the consequences of a major earthquake.

It was the most elaborate and complete earthquake exercise ever seen on live television and has received acclaim from the many public agencies that took part as well as a commendation from the Los Angeles City Council.
