A 17-year-old Sylmar High School student with no known gang affiliation was shot in the leg by suspected gang members who fired on a parked car as they drove past the school Monday, police said. Four youths were arrested.

The victim, a senior at the high school, was in stable condition after the 10:15 a.m. shooting, Los Angeles Police Detective Cliff Ruff said. Police did not disclose the youth’s name or where he was hospitalized.

The shots apparently were intended for several people sitting in a parked car in front of the school in the 13000 block of Bordon Avenue, but one round struck the youth, who was standing nearby, Rush said. It was not known if the occupants of the parked car were gang members, Rush said.

The alleged gunman, Rigoberto Flores, 19, of Pacoima, was held on suspicion of attempted murder, Ruff said. Robert Pena, 18, also of Pacoima, was held on $12,000 bail on suspicion of aiding the crime, police said. A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were in custody at Sylmar Juvenile Hall, Ruff said.

The four are not students at the high school, police said, and the shooting was unrelated to the teacher strike that began Monday.
