Todd Bridges Hurt in Jail Van Accident

Actor Todd Bridges was apparently hurt in a traffic accident involving a Sheriff’s Department jail van while he was being transported to a bail-reduction hearing on an attempted murder charge, his sister said Friday.

Bridges faces attempted murder charges, along with a second defendant, for a Feb. 2 shooting in a reputed South-Central Los Angeles drug den. The victim, Kenneth Clay, survived and later identified his attackers, authorities said.

Officials with the city police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they were unaware of the accident and could not immediately provide information about it.

Bridges, 23, a co-star in the NBC-TV comedy series, “Diff’rent Strokes,” was listed in stable condition in the Jail Ward at the County-USC Medical Center, said Deputy Sean Ruiz. The guard declined to provide further information.

“We were waiting for him to come out when we were told he was in a car accident,” said Verda Bridges, the actor’s older sister.

Municipal Judge David Horwitz, who presided over the preliminary hearing, refused to reduce Bridges’ $2-million bail.
