Much to my agony and displeasure, I have witnessed the disintegration of a loved one, due to the ravages of time. What was once a young, intriguing, lovable soul is now an old, worn-out cliched shadow of itself, hinting only sporadically of its former youth and vigor. What I am referring to is the revival of “Columbo.” Oh, how painful it is for me to see my favorite ruffled, brilliant detective portrayed as a caricature of itself. Doesn’t Peter Falk remember the old shows? Doesn’t anybody? Instead of the subtle nuances, which his character was famous for, Falk’s portrayal of his character is now a saboteur of his own drama. Not that there has been much drama to sabotage. . . . I can’t bear to see my loved one suffer any longer. Will someone please pull the plug?
