IN BRIEF : Mets Reportedly Bidding for Hayes
The New York Mets have offered center fielder Lenny Dykstra and pitching prospect David West to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Von Hayes, according to a published report.
The trade is being held up by Phillies General Manager Lee Thomas, who wants another player thrown in, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported in today’s editions. The Inquirer, citing unidentified sources with three National League clubs, said Thomas is believed to be holding out for a minor league pitcher.
Thomas made no comment on the reports of negotiations with the Mets but did concede that trade talks are going on.
“I’m talking more and more to a number of clubs, but I’m not going to make a deal until I feel I have received real value for what I’m trading,” Thomas said. “So far that hasn’t happened to my satisfaction.”
