IN BRIEF : Top Football Scorer in 1949 Dies

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. —
Former Oklahoma halfback George Carroll Thomas, who led the nation in scoring in 1949, died today of cancer in Scottsdale.
Thomas, whose teammates on the 1949 football team coached by Bud Wilkinson included Jim Owens, Darrell Royal and Wade Walker, was 61. He scored 117 points to lead the nation.
Thomas also played with the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants before returning to Oklahoma where he was in the oil field service business.
