“The Raw and the Cooked,” Fine Young Cannibals’ first No. 1 album, nudged Madonna out of the top spot of the Billboard magazine pop album chart after her “Like a Prayer” had reigned for six weeks. John Cougar Mellencamp’s “Big Daddy” is an instant hit, climbing all the way to No. 13 in just two weeks. Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick of Time” (No. 24) continues its steady rise. Cyndi Lauper may have a hit album: Her “A Night to Remember” jumped from No. 84 to No. 52. The surprise of the week is that Aretha Franklin’s “Through the Storm,” which figured to be a big hit since it boasts all those guest stars, moved up only two notches, to No. 62. The new No. 1 pop single is Michael Damian’s “Rock On.”

* Richard Marx, who’s been called the new Kenny Loggins, has become a big star. His “Repeat Offender” shot up to No. 17 on the pop album chart in just three weeks.
