Azusa Pacific Men Lead NAIA Track Meet

Ryan McCann and Tommy Daniel finished 1-2 in the hammer throw Thursday, helping host Azusa Pacific to take an eight-point lead on the first day of the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Assn. national track and field championship.

McCann won with a toss of 192 feet. Daniel threw 179-5.

Azusa Pacific, which is seeking an unprecedented seventh consecutive NAIA title, scored 23 points. Adams State of Colorado and Pittsburg State of Kansas had 15 each.

“We were steady today,” said Azusa Pacific Coach Terry Franson. “We were hoping for more points in a couple of areas and didn’t get them. Overall, I’m pleased.”
