IN BRIEF : QB Opts for Calgary Over San Diego

Former Tulane quarterback Terrence Jones would rather throw the football in Canada than catch in San Diego.

Jones signed a four-year contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. “I knew what I wanted to be. I want to be a quarterback, and I just followed my heart,” Jones said Monday in Calgary.

Jones, a seventh round draft choice by San Diego, went to minicamp briefly with the Chargers, but left when they asked him to convert to wide receiver. He is the highest NFL draftee to sign with the CFL since Joe Theismann, a fourth-round pick by Miami in 1971, went to Toronto.
