Jury selection began Thursday in the trial of a man charged with shooting to death two undercover federal drug agents and wounding a third during a sting operation last year in San Marino.

William Wang, 19, who survived after being shot eight times by other drug agents, could be sentenced to death if convicted at the Pasadena Superior Court trial of first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations.

A convicted accomplice, Michael Su Chia, 20, a Taiwanese national living in the San Gabriel Valley, was sentenced in February to 61 years to life in state prison.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Joseph Martinez said that federal drug agents George Montoya, 34, and Paul Seema, 52, were gunned down Feb. 5, 1988, during a sting operation aimed at breaking up a Thai drug ring.

Martinez charged that Wang and an associate shot the agents and stole $80,000 in cash from the federal agents, whom the suspects believed to be drug dealers.
