IN BRIEF : Linebacker to Seek Council Seat
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Reggie Williams says he will run for a Cincinnati City Council seat in the fall, after having served for a year as an appointee.
Williams, 34, said he decided to run after assuring himself he would be able to reduce conflicts with family and football to a minimum. He has said the 1989 season, his 14th in the National Football League, will be his last.
Williams is a member of the independent Charter Committee party in Cincinnati and has served on the nine-member City Council since being appointed to a vacancy in June, 1988. Williams said Thursday that the Bengals had agreed to excuse him from Wednesday afternoon drills so that he would be able to attend council sessions.
