Hunting Declines in Urban West

In Tosches’ otherwise fine article, he failed to mention the worst aspect of hunting which is the agonizing pain and often long-term suffering of an animal which is only wounded. If all hunters were crack shots and instantly killed every animal at which they aimed, then I should not have as strong an objection to hunting.

Unfortunately, many animals escape the hunters with bullets still lodged in various parts of their bodies. This condemns them to live the rest of their lives with one eye or a dangling leg in unspeakable pain.

Killing is not the worst part of hunting--it’s the wounding!
