Aman and Avaz

Plaudits to Donna Perlmutter for her well-researched article about the Aman Folk Ensemble dance troupe (“Aman: No Question, It’s Still a Time to Dance,” May 28).

Having danced with both Aman and Avaz and having known Anthony Shay for 22 years, I was very aware of the pains he went through when he had no choice but to leave Aman. (Shay, once a key force behind Aman, now runs his own troupe, Avaz.--Editor)

For the past 12 years, Aman had literally erased Shay from its history, such as through the omission of his name in programs and in credits for choreographies and research. It was heartwarming to see Perlmutter place this history back where it belongs.
