The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education has unanimously accepted the resignation of Supt. Bruce C. Newlin, who will become superintendent of the Ceres unified system in Central California.

Newlin, 54, resigned after 11 years as head of the 18,000-student Norwalk-La Mirada district. His resignation becomes effective July 1.

The seven-member board took action on the resignation at its meeting Monday. Newlin had informed the board last month that he was leaving because he thought it was time for a change.
