Grievances of Postal Workers

Share

Your article was right on target.

I’ve been with the Postal Service since 1985, and it has literally changed my life (for the worse). I was a letter sorting machine operator for one year. I tolerated working nights, tolerated feeling like I was one with the machine, and tolerated the extreme boredom of being an LSM operator, but basically got along with my supervisors and co-workers until I developed what’s called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both my hands (CTS is caused by repetitive hand and wrist movement). Everything suddenly changed; I was treated like a criminal by my supervisor and even some of my co-workers because I couldn’t do my job.

I’ve been through three operations and have been totally disabled now going on 14 months. My employment future looks extremely limited or even nonexistent--this is for the rest of my life! (I am 34 years old.)

Every time I hear of yet another postal employee going over the edge of sanity, I can surely relate.
