Gang Member, 17, Faces Murder Trial
A 17-year-old gang member was charged with murder Thursday in the death of a man who was gunned down while investigating the break-in of his car in a restaurant parking lot.
The gang member, whose name was withheld because of his age, was arraigned later Thursday in Juvenile Court on one count each of murder and attempted auto burglary.
A second gang member, a 15-year-old who is suspected of actually firing the shot that killed Wayne R. Gibbs, remains at large.
Gibbs, 58, of Burbank, an ABC field engineer for 40 years, was shot once in the chest while investigating the break-in of his classic 1957 Volkswagen May 11.
He had been eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant near the ABC studios in Hollywood when he noticed some activity near his car and walked over to take a look.
