Objections to Times Poll on Airport Noise

Share

How can it be said (May 28) that only a comparative handful of San Fernando Valley residents are bothered by Burbank Airport noise?

The telephone interviews of May 20 contacted 710 residents in Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and other San Fernando Valley communities. Why would Glendale and Pasadena residents be interviewed regarding noise? They do not suffer airport noise. Only the southern end of Burbank gets the noise. Why were other areas of Burbank interviewed? They do not experience the noise either.

I would think that to get a true evaluation on the topic of noise, those living under the flight paths should have been called. These are individuals living in the north and northwestern areas of Sun Valley, North Hollywood, Studio City, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks and the south end of Burbank. These are people who experience noise--not residents of Glendale and Pasadena.

If the Airport Authority was sincere in wanting to be a good neighbor, the east runway would be opened on days when weather permits. Then and only then would everyone be happy as the noise would be shared evenly including Glendale, Pasadena and all of Burbank, not just a very small area.

Wouldn’t that be nice? No more bad feelings! No more lawsuits! Then when we meet one another, we could say hello with a real smile.
